Actual fans huh? That's gotta get kinda weird. [The news has just started really recognizing the Big Hero 6 but having actual fans is strange to him. And not really something he thinks he could deal with.]
I've been here a little over three months now. Some people have been here even longer...maybe almost a whole year? I don't think anything stretches beyond that though.
It is certainly very strange. Some people have far too much time on their hands.
[ To quote his master exactly. Or, well, close enough to being exact. Though that's neither here or there as he catches what Hiro says about how varied the length of time of people who have been here is. ]
Do they not exist? Or is there some outstanding reason for that?
[It sounds like it, and the face he makes in response expresses his thoughts quite clearly. Still. They can compare notes later because now Genos asked a question and...he doesn't exactly have an immediate answer.]
They might exist, but from what I understand the colony itself isn't even that old. I don't know a ton about the history, I'm still learning everything possible. But it's the only colony on Tellus that actually houses people like us. That's not counting villages of natives and stuff who've been here for way longer.
[ There can always be time to compare notes later. ]
Fascinating. [ Genos is going to commit that to memory and make sure to compare it to what he learned from the power point at some later time. Or maybe now? ]
I was under the impression that Cerealia was much older than a year. It's surprising to see hear how it might not be. [ Honestly, Genos is just surprised how much information he learned in those few sentences. ] Did it take you a while to gather this information?
From the way Mosley talks it still sounds like they're figuring out how to make this colony work. He's even mentioned that we're the highest human population on this planet. As for the other colonists here who're aliens...[It's about then he seems to realize what he's saying.]
I mean there's a pretty high chance this is all a ton of lies. They like doing that. Things that some of us have seen seem to indicate contradictions everywhere but it's not that old is the point. And people from our worlds don't stretch back more than a year.
It's...I've only been here since February and it's the middle of May now so maybe a little while? But I'm also kind of always looking for information on this place.
[ It's his first response as the name doesn't immediately jump out at him as something he remembers right away. And while he lets the rest of the information to sink in there's a question that has been growing: ]
Do you go about looking for this information on your own? [ This is important to him. Is there a team of people who are interested? A small group of people? Genos gets the feeling that there might be a fair amount of people who are interested but are aimless in their search. ] With all of the lies and contradictions, I would think something like this would be easier with more involved.
[ Another pause as Genos remembers something that happened with someone else here— ]
My apologies for making this seem as though I'm pressing you for answers.
Mosley. [Nodding and just repeating the name.] He's the PR rep for CERES and the CEO's right-hand man. He talks to us sometimes, he's always available for calls and stuff.
[What a funny thing to apologize for.] It's fine. You're not really pressing for anything, don't worry about it. And yeah, I go looking for it on my own most of the time but a couple of friends and I have been collecting information, too. [Speaking of.] Have you met Athena Cykes yet?
I didn't realize there was someone we could somewhat reliably contact.
[ Definitely going to commit that name to memory now, perhaps even try to talk to him whenever and ifever the time comes for something like that. Probably wouldn't be happening any time soon but it's a good name to have.
He'll give a shake of his head when he's asked about Athena. Looks like Hiro's way more compliant to sharing the information that the other person he has spoken with. ]
No, I have not. Is she someone who is working alongside you with the information gathering?
I don't know if reliably is the word I'd use, but he definitely answers when we call him. That's more than some other people around here.
[Hiro works under the firm belief that everybody around here should at least have a heads up how the world works. There are things he won't say in public, but there's nothing wrong with divulging a little info.] Something like that. Athena's a friend of mine. She's been here for a little longer than I have, and she and a couple of people also put together a timeline of stuff that's happened here. I can send you the document if you want? I need to add my own notes to it anyway but it's mostly cohesive.
[ There's a small hum as Genos just slowly nods along and makes a note of yet another name—Athena Cykes. His eyes sort of brighten at the offer of a document containing and pertaining to everything that has occurred. ]
Please, I would greatly appreciate what you have to share with me about what has happened here until recently. [ A hero needs to be well informed, right? ]
If possible, I will also try to help you in any endeavors regarding uncovering the truth of this place as well.
...yeah? [Huh. Well, they could always use an extra hand. Of course there's the whole thing about needing to be cautious and everything, but he's getting the feeling that Genos would already know how to handle that.]
I guess it wouldn't hurt. [There's a grin.] I don't suppose you're listed as "state-of-the-art toaster" on the CERES network, are you? [Because apparently Hiro can't ask for a name like a normal person.]
No. [ Genos will meet the grin with a confused look. Did he...do something wrong? ]
The handle I chose was my name—Genos. Should I have picked something less direct?
[ Look there's a lot that he doesn't quite know and given how ill-informed he feels about everything he isn't sure if he made a mistake or not. So, Hiro and his weird way of asking him for his name gets a pass for now. ]
Oh...no. No that's not...no. [Annnd the awkward grin! He rubs the back of his neck sheepishly.] I mean almost everybody uses their real name. So...Genos. Okay. [He nods to himself to commit it to memory.]
I'm Hiro...Hamada. There's two Hiros in this place, I'm still getting used to actually attaching my last name to stuff.
I've met the other Hiro you've speak of... He's quite the friendly and exuberant fellow. [ Which is a way to describe the other Hiro yes. There's no way that Genos would confuse the two of them. ]
It's a pleasure to meet you either way, Hiro Hamada.
That's a nice way of putting it, yeah. [Seeing how other-Hiro got him in some trouble with Jaune, he's not really sure what other-Hiro has been up to. He's not sure if that's a compliment or a sleight at him as well.] Anyway, likewise, Genos. Anything you need around here, I can try to find an answer for you. [He's already fishing his CereVice out of his pocket to send him a document.]
Baymax and I are usually figuring stuff out. Don't hesitate to ask.
[ Genos follows suit and pulls out his own CereVice and immediately starts to pull up and read the document when it appears. Still taking the moment to answer Hiro while skimming over the length of the document first. ]
I will not. Your kindness and eagerness to help me will not go unthanked. If there is anything that I can help you with outside of the information gathering, please do not hesitate to ask me as well.
[ He'll look up from the text and back to Hiro with his typical serious expression. ]
I am a hero after all and no deed is too small or too big for me to handle.
I think you and I both feel pretty similarly about that, Genos. [But it's very good to know all the same. He can't help but grin though. The guy takes himself pretty seriously, but he has a feeling he'll definitely be a good ally to have.]
First thing's first? Familiarize yourself with that information. That'll be a really big help.
[ There's probably no one else who takes themselves as seriously as Genos does, but not a bad thing. Gets stuff done. Ideally. ]
I will and I feel the same. However, I do thank you again, Hiro Hamada. I'm certain with this I will no longer feel the need to ask so many questions to so many different people.
[ Though there is one thing that pops up into his mind before he goes back to reading the information given. ]
Is this information spread by word-of-mouth? Or is there a way for others to come into access with this unknowingly?
I mean...it's not bad to ask questions but I get what you mean. [Though speaking of questions, that's a good one.] I think this is all spread by word of mouth though. I didn't even know about it until Athena announced it on the network a while ago and since then people have been passing it around.
I don't think there's anything stopping it, no. I bet I could ask Athena about maybe making an announcement once a month or something...or maybe Tadashi and I can build an app that automatically sends it out to every newcomer as soon as their CereVice is registered online. Would something like that suffice?
Would it be possible to have an application that sends out this information automatically?
[ Not that he doubts it; it's just... for something like CERES, he'd imagine that there would be some sort of things preventing them from tampering it in such ways but then again, he doesn't know much. ]
If it is, then I would say something like that would be the most ideal.
I don't see why not. Tadashi's app tracks when people come and go in the colony. It shouldn't be too hard to integrate something. I'll talk to both of them and see what we can come up with. It's...really not a bad idea at all.
I cannot think of anything else right now... [ But that said he's going to ponder about this a little bit longer. ]
The devices that they gave us—exactly how much can we alter it? Are there any sort of repercussions for tampering with their technology to such a degree?
From what I can tell, they aren't that easy to tamper with. I've tried to figure it out but other than a few minor adjustments they're pretty solid programming. If I thought I could afford a second device, I'd try to jailbreak mine to see what I could do with it.
