[ Honestly, Genos would be surprised if something did jump out at them when she demanded it. If there's nothing else, he does a double take to make sure that nothing wants to take her offer.
If anything they're greeted with a moment of silence. Okay. ]
It does seem pretty new but sometimes there are places that are built upon the ruins of something much older. [ He'd go to pick up some stuff from the ground but the ground is kind of...gross. ] Perhaps this is the case with Cerealia and these are ruins of what was here previous.
But that...sounds reasonable? She's not sure, she's not particularly good with history and geography and things like this, but it sounds about right to her. It's not entirely unfamiliar, either.]
Huh... I wonder what was here before?
... And why it's all ruins-y now. That too. That seems important.
It does, doesn't it. [ He'll keep a look out but no signs of monsters even lurking just yet. ]
However I doubt that's something we'll be able to find out right away.
[ Unless there are signs telling them where's what and all of that right off the bat, but Genos isn't going to count on that. Instead, he'll keep pressing forward until he meets the water and makes a face.
Yeaaaah, I'm not really an expert at... things like this. Honestly sometimes I fall asleep in class.
[Life is hard when your professor rambles.]
But I'm sure if we keep going, we'll find something! And then someone else might know more--there are lots of different sorts of people here, so someone's gotta know something.
[ It's probably a good thing that Ruby has never heard Genos ramble yet. The guy might put her professors to shame. Depending on the topic of course. ]
Yes, it does appear that there are a number of people here who seem to be very knowledgeable of various things. There are even those here who claim to be gods.
[ He says rather matter-as-factly and turns away from the water in search for a better way around the obstacle. ] And not to deviate too much, but from everything I understand Cerealia is rather new and clean... However, the places that I've noticed in the ViViD and in here seemed to be a far cry from that.
[ In other words, why the obsession with the filth these days? ]
I guess it was a few months ago now, but it was a pretty big deal at the time! I guess we made some people mad because they came and totally wrecked the colony. Flooded it, ruined the ceiling... that's why we don't have one anymore, I guess.
It certainly sounds like one. [ He'd want to look up for the ceiling that was apparently lacking but really there's no time or a place for that right now. ]
Was there anything else that happened as a result of it? Any clue as to why "elemental gods" suddenly attacking the colony?
Oh, it was totally because they were after CERES. Most people who show up here to try to bother us are after CERES, I think we're just kinda...here.......
Collateral damage? Yeah, something like that.
[She shrugs....there are worse things to be.]
CERES had kidnapped someone important to them so they were here to get her back! But they kind of flooded us in the process.
[ Given how Genos wasn't there he can only imagine what "kind of flooded us" exactly entailed. Either Ruby is very used to destruction or she's that carefree. Or possibly even the combination of the two. ]
In the end did CERES give back who was kidnapped? [ This also sounds really concerning in a way?? ]
[It was pretty cool, as far as Ruby's concerned, though she can't really say much since she wasn't on the trip itself. Hiro told her about it, though.]
And they returned her to them, and that's when they dragged us out into the jungle. I think we were supposed to live there forever, but... we can't actually stay out there.
[ Ruby, I hope you know this story gets more and more interesting the more you speak. Genos doesn't know how to gauge it properly and instead just makes mental notes of all of this and commits it to memory. ]
Monsters, I take?
[ And with that Genos steps into something that immediate goes squish. ]
[She's giving that spot a wiiiiide berth as she walks with him.
But right, story.]
There were monsters, but that's not why. I guess in the end nobody could really breathe out there. I mean, I didn't really have a problem but most people did.
Though when she explains that to him he stops in his step and gives her a look. The squishy thing that Genos stepped on still squishing along up until that point. ...it's dark and he's using that excuse not to look down and exactly see what he stepped in. ]
Has anyone been back there since? [ Genos imagined that there might be someone given the diversity in this place but if not— ] I don't require air to function.
I shall keep that in mind. [ Okay but for real, he's going to have to look down at the source of the constant squishing and it's...
Well that sure does look like it was part of something once before and Genos is almost certain if he wanted to scan it to see what it was it would be something organic. ]
Though not to deter from our conversation but I seemed to have stepped into the remains of what might have seen what were making those noises earlier.
[ It's clear that he should stop stepping with this foot and perhaps hop until they find the source of water that Ruby had mentioned but in doing so meant that he was going to look ridiculous. And while Genos doesn't really care what he looks like it's also not really logical.
So he keeps on squishing along. Hopefully they'll find that water she spoke about sooner than later. ]
I may need to make sure that none of it got stuck elsewhere. [ This is getting kind of gross..... ]
It was close, I think! I mean, before I fell it sounded like it was down here, but then. Falling. So I think it must be closer now! Let's try... over here!
[It would be pretty funny though, you can't deny that. Hopping along on one foot....]
Like, maybe...
[And that's when Ruby trips over an invisible rock (or, well, one she can't see) and tumbles straight into said water.]
Genos doesn't say a word and instead crouches down over towards her and offers a hand to help her up, if she wants it of course. Then he'll shine the lights towards the water and...yeah. It's definitely just normal water. ]
My hands can provide as a small heater if you wish to dry off after I clean my foot.

Yeah, it does seem pretty old, doesn't it? I wonder if it's an old part of the city or something? Though Cerealia's always seemed pretty new...

[She shrugs, even as she steps in a puddle (ew!!!) and shuffles away quickly.]
Maybe they're still mad at us for the whole elemental-god-things-wrecking-the-city thing.
